O how i share your pain,I know, I tried to get a cheque released from these people . the only thing they tell you is wait 10 days then after 12 days it is still not released then i phone these clowns and tell them i am waiting 12 working days for my money. You see i need to pay the suppliers but after 20 minutes of frustrating elevator music and listening to how they will help me I decided to go to the bank and VIOLA!!!!!! here i have to sit for another 25minutes and watch how some salesman from FNB helps a chicken lady somewhere in the north to use incontact banking. Then the moment of truth arrives only to hear I must speak to my personal relationship manager(I felt quite good having a personal relationship manager ). There I go up to the fourth floor and I wait again. After a discussion she will decide when to release the cheque and said she will do it now , o I feel good but when I checked my statement they charged me R55-00, skande. This ritual I have to do again because they will decide when and how I can use my money because I am white and owns a small business. My cleaner in the office got a quicker overdraft on his FNB account and a Credit card without hesitation but myself who employs 12 people can't even get a petrol card or overdraft from these clowns. Their reason is that I do work for the Government and there cheque's aren't trusted!!!! although I am five years in business and I've had my account with them from the beginning.

Hi

For what it is worth I am a shareholder in Capitec and while having an account with them is great, I went to them for a small business loan for some software development work thinking they would be interested. If you are self-employed or a contractor, Capitec won't extend you any loan facilities.

Another pain in the butt with Capitec is that I can't deposit our cheques from Google into their accounts which is a little frustrating.

Trying to get unsecured working capital from the traditional banks at the moment is like blood out of a stone. I know however that FNB have a start-up desk / business unit headed up by Ashley Mathura (I think the spelling is right) - try and give their desk a buzz and maybe they can help you out.

While they are not going to be cheap, there are other sources of funding outside of the traditional banks including places like African Bank and a number of the micro-lenders. While some of them have bad reputations, some are really good quality reputable businesses (if you can afford to service the debt).

We've created a VERY rough and ready financial services product aggregator here - http://rivalfin.bundublog.com/ - which we are testing out. There are the facilities to approach two other institutions for short-term personal loans who may be able to assist you on these and other financial services products.
